Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

A couple of weeks of ago I watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and it was quite delightful. I was very impressed by the production values and the live orchestra. I was expecting something slightly better than my high school's production, but everything looked very professionally done.

The entire cast gave incredible performances, but the real stars of the show were Sean and Sam. When Sean did his axe jump on the table I was on the edge of my seat. Sean and Sam danced with such grace and ability that they really stole the show. Overall, it was a fantastic play and I would see it again if I had the chance. 10/10

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

I must start off by saying that i've always been into plays. Honestly, if i could sing, I would totally do theater. I went to see this play and I like it, it was not my favorite play ever, but i like it. The acting, singing and dancing was great; however, I didn't like the plot as much.

The plot is very simple and predictable in my opinion. When I first saw that a man that has six brothers married a girl that has six sisters I immediately knew that was going to be the plot of the play, well, that and the title; the title pretty much gives it away. The music of the play was great; i really enjoyed the orchestra and the actors' voices were in point. The dance part of the play was choreographed really good and i must say props to the dancers and the choreographer. Overall the play was good but not my favorite. The set of the play was really good and well done, the costumes were really well done as well.

Seven Brides For Seven Brothers

I've always loved going to school productions of various plays and musicals in high school, but man is college different. Now when I say different, I mean REALLY different. The performances, the singing, the sets, nearly everything. One last reason though, Sam and Sean were the bomb.
I had no idea that such a play existed until Huntington University put it on. Going in to the play I knew nothing except for the fact that it took place approximately one hundred years ago and two fellow DMA majors were involved. As soon as it started however, I wished I had known about this play. Everything came together so well! There wasn't a single performance that was lackluster, here's lookin at you, Sam and Sean. On top of that, the singing job was phenomenal. I could hear every part as each song joyfully went along. There wasn't an ounce of confidence, but rather a pound! No musical is a musical without a set though. This set was something I hadn't seen before at high school performances, I'm focusing on the sheet sets. Each one was outstanding, whether it be the vast mountains of Oregon or the cozy barn. It actually took me a couple of scenes to even realize, but that's what's so grand about it. The colors were so varied, yet never less than gorgeous. Everything was just professional.
It's amazing ingredients such as these that make a great production, and I'm happy to say that this year HU nailed it.

7 Brides for 7 Brothers

I went to this play mainly to support a friend that was in it. I have never been a huge fan of plays or musicals. I just didn't like the story stopping to sing so I never went to many plays. This play however surprised me. It was very funny and I ended up liking it a lot. All the actors did a fantastic job.
There was a lot of really cool choreography. I was amazed by it. They were throwing girls everywhere. It was really pretty crazy. And of course the best dancers were Sean and Sam.
My favorite part was the pastor. He was an old man and he was only apart of a few scenes but whenever he entered of exited he ran in this way that was just ridiculous and it was hilarious. Another part I really enjoyed was Gideon's roll. He was a really likable character and the actor played him well.
Another thing I liked was what they did with Adam. He started out as this really nice guy that saved this woman from some rude guy. Then he ended up being this jerk that tricked her into taking care of his brothers and treated her badly. He redeems himself in the end but it was interesting to see his character change so much.

Overall, I liked it a lot and I would definitely go see it again if I had the opportunity.

7 Brides

I went to see the musical 7 brides for 7 brothers while it was still showing at Huntington. Having never seen the movie or musical before, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Everyone played their character so well. The story was entertaining as well. I was entertained the entire way through. When Adam brought home Milly and she found out that he had 7 brothers I couldn't help but laugh. It was such a humorous play. My favorite scene was the abduction scene. Ja'shon's character made me laugh so hard, as did every other character. The development was great. I got nervous when the pass had melted and you knew that all the towns people were going to be going up. I didn't want anything to happen to the brothers, even if they did do wrong by abducting the girls. I was glad that it was left up to the girls in the end and that they chose to marry the brothers. I think one of my other favorite scenes had to be when they were in the barn fighting and losing their sanity, that one was quite humorous as well. Everyone in the musical did a great job keeping us entertained throughout the entire thing. Very well done.

7 Brides for 7 Brothers

I recently saw Huntington University’s production of Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and I was overall impressed with it.
I thought that all of the acting was quite good.  I thought that Joshua Cookingham and Maggie Gilliam did a very good job in the lead roles.  Another one of my favorites was the performance of Ja’Shon Burks as Caleb.  I really enjoyed the way he played the character, it made me laugh.  I thought that the actors worked well together and the acting seemed natural.
I thought that the set was very nice.  The set really helped me get into the setting of the play.  I was particularly impressed with the inside of the cabin.  I felt it looked realistic despite the fact that it could be disassembled in a matter of seconds.
I thought that the costumes were well done as well.  I liked the color coding of the brides to the brothers, it helped me keep track of the characters.  One problem I did have though was that some of the coats the brothers wore were very clearly not from that time period, whereas the rest of the costumes could conceivably be found in that time.  Another thing was that toy guns were used.  I understand that real guns couldn’t have been used and for the most part the toy guns didn’t bother me, what did bother me was that the orange cap was left on the end of some of the guns.  These caps stuck out and made the production feel more fake.
I really enjoyed all of the songs and thought that everybody that sang did a good job.  There weren’t any times where I thought that the singing was off key or out of tune.  The dancing for the production was just impressive, especially the dance social scene.

Overall I enjoyed my experience with Seven Brides For Brothers and find my self wishing that I could see it again.

The 007 Brides for 007 and his brothers

Yes I do have a knack for eye catching titles don't I?  Now's the part where I admit to you...this blog...has nothing to do with 007 at all...WAIT WAIT DONT SCROLL DOWN YET!! Not before I describe my thoughts............uhhhhh...............hold on a sec...............its coming.....................GOT IT! So Im not a huge fan of plays to be honest, in the past when Ive attended them they've really just come off as somewhat corny/cheesy overall not my cup of tea...you know what...switch tea for sierra mist cause thats the REAL good stuff(drink responsibly). With this in mind I had heard of the SBFSB play but hadn't really considered attending it. But somehow I ended up going with friends to watch and Im glad I did. Because I had never seen this play before I didnt know what to expect, but man it was great. Sam Jones and Sean Fitpatrick(White Shawn if you're feeling affectionate) did a fantastic job of dance, I only wish they had more lines and song lyrics they could have sung but whatchagonnado? I cant close with out mentioning the orchestra...FAN...TAS...TIC...all I can say is...because of them I felt like I was watching a movie and thats just incredible. So because of Sam, Sean and the orchestra and crew I guess I can say my faith in plays has been restored...except when you turn one of my favorite movies about a certain italian fourth rate boxer-turned-champion living in my first state, PA, into a broadway musical...then we have a problem...a deep, deep problem.

7 Brides for 7 Brothers (after)

I just saw the play and I have only one word: regret…that I didn’t see it sooner so I could watch it twice! While I don’t know much about the aspects of the play or any of the technical terms, I can still talk about why I thought it was amazing.
I have never seen “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” before this show so I can’t compare it to anything else, but I have to say that the most impressive part of the show was the dancing. It was amazing; people were flipping all over the stage, lifting the girls up and over heads. It was just… ah, I can’t think of the words to describe it. The actors all did a fantastic job and I definitely know that it wasn’t easy and didn’t go smoothly every night (my roommate was in the show and she came back so tired some nights from late rehearsals). I will say though that my favorite part of the whole show was not Sean and Sam’s dancing (though they did make a lovely pair J). It was during the kidnapping of the brides when one of the brothers is the cat Tabby (a large man behind a fence putting his heart and soul into a meow). I laughed until I had tears.

▲Seven Brides for DOUBLE BLOG CREDITS▲

▲Seven Brides for DOUBLE BLOG CREDITS▲

I saw this musical on its premiere (Is that what the call it for plays?). And it was horrible. Absolutely terrible. A disaster. Catastrophic.  Dismal. Pathetic. Stupid. Sad. Worthless. Boring. A waste of time. Complete and utter filth. So bad that I want those two hours of my life back. No entertainment value what-so-ever. If this play was my child, I would dis-own it and kick it out of my house without  a penny to its name. If it was a person driving a car, I would cut it off and flip it the bird. If it was a pair of shoes, I wouldn't wear that pair of shoes. If I ever came across this play in a dark alley, I would shank it, steal it's wallet and leave it to bleed out on the cold concrete ground. The police probably wouldn't even investigate the case because they would just be glad to get rid of it. The world would be a better brighter place if this play didn't exist. If there was an online poll on whether you would prefer to get needles shoved through your eyelids or watch this play, the needles would have 99.9% of the vote, and the only people who would vote otherwise are extreme masochists. I can't believe they spent the electricity to light the play, let alone the time and energy to make it. Sam and white Sean performed terribly. I am ashamed to even say I know them. Now every time I see them I avert my eyes and walk in the opposite direction so that I will never be associated with them. If I even get within a hundred feet of them I go through an ancient Aztec purification ritual to cleanse myself from their filth. I doubt the would even be let into hell, the play was that bad. They would just dwell in limbo for all eternity.

Actually the play was pretty good.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

This was an interesting show.

In my family, we were raised on musicals so it was nice to see something I've never heard of.
This was my second time attending a college level production and this production met my expectation. It was such a cute story about meeting your true love and how being spontaneous can get you to far places (and that kidnapping/ being a stalker isn't a good thing) This musical had a great moral to the story and plenty of humor.

The choreography was amazing! I've been in three high school productions my self and that was nothing compared to the dances in this show. Girls where being flung around, guys jumping up and down off things, while singing beautifully!

By the way...
Sean and Sam you both were wonderful in the show!!! Thank you for performing :)

Those Two Brothers We're Supposed To Blog About For Double Blog Credit

So first off, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was SO AWESOME! I actually started screaming when all the brothers were singing together because it sounded so awesome and the choreography was great and WOWYOUGUYSREALLYMISSEDASHOWIFYOUDIDN'TSEEIT!!
Anyways, Sean and Sam played these two brothers and they were just so terrible; dropping things everywhere and messing up lines and tripping over each other during the dancing! It was so bad. Everyone else was fantastic, though.
Too pro.

Haha just kidding, y'all rocked and were so adorable! I work in the costume shop and I actually made Sean's little blanket thingy from the scene where Millie puts those boys in their place and makes them dinner (I WAS FREAKING OUT YOU GUYS USED REAL FOOD ON SET [well it looked like it at least] AND SOME OF Y'ALL ACTUALLY ATE IT AND IT WAS INCREDIBLE I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING SO FANTASTIC)! I had no idea what y'all were gonna use them for; it was adorable.
The dancing was really impressive! It was so well choreographed, but it was also executed really nicely, and I really think that that's what made the performance! I had a hard time getting into the play in the beginning but I soon fell completely in love with it and thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

Seven Bros for Seven....umm....somethings that rhymes...what could it be?

Never call me Frankincense again!
I had some doubts about this show before we started. I had never been in a musical before but bless my beautiful hide; not a production have I been in that was better than Seven Brides. The cast that we had to work with was so great and everyone was very encouraging to one another. Sean and I were definitely two of the people that had the least dance experience and it was a struggle for myself in particular. Once the two of us got it down we did pretty well I
Us sexy brothers!
think. The two people that had the most influence in this production, although it pains me to say it, were not myself and Sean but were Maggie Gilliam (Milly) and Josh Cookingham (Adam). They were both constantly encouraging the cast and both of them helped the other actors through by showing complete investment. Both of them made excellent choices that really developed their characters and helped other people pull from their actions. Maggie had many points during the musical where I could tell she was fully invested and connected in the scene and the actions going on around her – specifically the Social. If I ever lost my investment in the scene I just had to look at Maggie. I felt that every choice she made was honest and believable. One time the button of my pants popped off, and she saw me struggling with keeping my pants up. She came right over and in perfect character, tried to assist me in fixing my pants. It was things like this that showed her complete investment into the scene and helped us pull of a truly fun, enjoyable, and fantastic musical.
MEOW!
Look at that ax jumping beauty!

Maybe next year

Last week I had the privilege to see Sean and Sam both perform in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. It is a musical performance that was shown at the MCA. The story is about the struggle of boys becoming men as well as the idea of letting love grow before marriage. I had personally not seen it before, so the story was very fun to see unravel.
Sean and Sam were 2 of the 7 brothers. The humor they brought to the play was very evident. Sean jumping over an ax just to show up another guy. Sam being the brother that didn’t want to learn how to be a man that women would respect. All great acting among the cast. The music was my favorite part though. I know two of the people who were in the pit playing instruments. The two main singers of the show were great as well. Stage presence is not easy when you have that many people watching every move you make.

I would like to congratulate Sean and Sam on their success in the show. I hope to see them continue to bless us with their great performances. I do understand that it is very time consuming. That is what kept me from being in the play. I still wish I had done it, but no way to go back now. Maybe next year?

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

I was able to watch the play Seven Brides for Seven Brothers on my birthday. To be honest, I did not feel like watching the play at all that day, but I thought I'd go and see it anyway, and what I saw astounded me.
I was aware of the story before I saw the play. I remember bits and pieces of the Hollywood movie as well as the Bollywood remake of it. What I did not expect was how hardworking our theatre department. I was mesmerized by everyone's acting. The dialogues were well written and well delivered. I'd like to give a shout out to our very own Sean Fitzpatrick and Sam Jones. You guys did an awesome job!
(Picture Courtesy: Sam Jones' facebook wall)
I also enjoyed the live music. It was well synchronized between the scenes. This is a place where coordination is the key; it plays an important role in keeping the show running smoothly. Another element of the play that really kept the show running smoothly was the transition between scenes and sets. I think it was done extremely well because there were hardly any problems or delays because of that and everyone seemed to know what they were doing.
Another thing that I really enjoyed was the musical performance of all the actors. I think the cast did justice to the songs and performed well. I think we have enormous talent in HU and that talent should be encouraged.
Timing and precision go hand in hand. If either of them is taken away, the show can become a mess. I think the theatre department it doing a great job. I will try to watch more plays in the future.

That Play Leeper Offered Double Credit For...

Seven Brides For Seven Brothers

So, I got to go see Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Friday. It was pretty fun…yeah.

As to get the blog credit, I thought Sean and Sam’s dancing was rather humorous, I loved how they started out all awkward and had jerky movements, but they got the flow down eventually.

I think my favorite parts of the show were when the brothers were talking about kidnaping the girls, and then doing the actual deed. The good, old fashioned comedy of everyone running about the stage and getting into weird situations really made me laugh…. Meow! Hehehe.

So, here is what to take from this story. Don’t go getting married to someone you have only known for 3 hours, and if their life seems too good to be true…it is. When the wife you just basically kidnaped teaches your brothers manners, takes them to a social, and they find girls, don’t decide to talk about kidnaping them. Do not ever, ever, act upon the last statement… And when you do, your wife’s baby shall be claimed by all the girls you convinced your siblings to drag up the mountain.

(I would completely disregard that last paragraph were I you)

To be honest, I think this was meant to be a fun slice of life. There isn’t a particular deeper meaning, except maybe this: life is unexpected, and will probably be pretty chaotic at times, so be prepared for anything to be thrown at you.

Random Thought of the Blog: ... hmm. Well...yeah I got nothing this time.
