DeviantART

If you do not know already DeviantArt, LLC is an online community showcasing various forms of user-made artwork. It was first launched on August 7, 2000 by Scott Jarkoff, Matthew Stephens, Angelo Sotira and others. (Wikipedia) It was only until college started when I began to use deviant art. There is alot of really cool and inspiring pieces of art on there and there is a lot of art on there that makes you just want to go… “Wha..Whhh...What.. Ddd-ddid I just look at?” There is comics and interactive stories. Gifs and loads of cool people and artist you can talk to on DeviantART. There is everything from poetry, writing, digital, tradition, and photography. even sculptures that people have made. Oh and cosplayers such as Parle’ Productions. If you post your work on their you can sell prints and even request critiques and join groups based on art like Night Vale. Its a nifty little piece of mojo. However I do warn you if you post your work sign it or put a watermark on it because otherwise its really easy for people to take it and use it for themselves or other sites because some artist have written about having that problem on DeviantART.

Alex Koshelkov

I would like to state that I very rarely like stalk photo art for this matter Alex Koshelkov is an exception. This guy does it right and I enjoy each og his creations because they become original. Something else that I also find really cool about this guys work is the music he literally has music specific for his videos and its designed to listen to it loudly with the art that is being created on the screen. He has everything from london being flooded and wars being held on pirate ships in the air to apocalyptic dinosaur chasing situations and science fiction action packed adventure exploring life creating scenes. Every thing he does is in photoshop and it all come together seamlessly. Although I shouldn't let it baffled me it does. and I enjoy it alot. He thinks of a lot of small things that I wouldn’t normally think of, like the different shades of lights in the window of a building things much simpler than that even, and I think thats what I like a lot about his videos. It actually reminds me of a DeviantART picture I came across one of Tom Hiddleston with a suit and his hands were in his pockets and the small detail I didn’t think of was the out line and the curvey shadow due to the hands being in his pocket.

Social Revolution

I just recently came across this film on youtube a few days ago and so I thought I would share it. You never fully realise just how special something is, even if its right in front of you, until it is pointed out. In this video this guy describes the greatest computer and how your eye sight works and the life that you have right in front of you. The 86 Billion neurons translating everything that we taken of the 72GB of information our eyes take in every second to our brains (the best supercomputer in the world).  The MAGNIFICENT sights of this beautiful and breathtaking world, the stories, memories, and emotion making you and ongoing project. Painting to pass knowledge experiencing to grow and share. We are always innovating and creating. Sharing to reflect who we are. I love this video because it points out something that is right in our face that I know I do not often take the time to fully look at. We are the best innovation and we are creating the best innovations, sharing and creating, as one united in the world. we together are so much more powerful as we walk into the future and all of the brilliance that is about to come as we continue and socialise as media inspires to push forward always changing and advancing with the human race.

The Impossible Show Firefly (Documentary on Netflix)

Besides Doctor Who and Marvel, as well as, many other things. Firefly is very inspiring to me. If you do not know already or have only seen the movie Serenity, which I will talk about later. Firefly is an American space western drama television series created by writer and director Joss Whedon. The story follows Malcolm Reynolds(Nathan Fillion), his crew, and the adventures they have together. Firefly is the impossible show. It was a futuristic cowboy esk show before its time. Its one of the few if not only shows that became popular with a huge following/fanbase, after it was canceled into its first season. Ever since it was taken off air the fan base has remained strong in the following and passion for the show. With the unity of the fans the show was able to make a comeback with a movie called Serenity also written and directed by Joss Whedon in honor of the fans. Thats something that has never happened before in the history of media. A movie after the show was canceled. Simply put it is the impossible show. The show is fantastic and I highly suggest a watch if you haven't seen the series especially if you have only seen the movie. I am writing this blog about the documentary just published signifying its survival of 15 years and never dying out despite its cancellation during the first season of the show. It was a fantastic documentary and conveyed just how passionate the fans are.

Serenity Movie Trailer

Midnight in Paris

Midnight in Paris is an American 2011 romantic comedy fantasy film written and directed by Woody Allen. I saw this film just a couple of weeks before college started and I thought It was fantastic. So I thought I would share this film on the blogs. I found the concept to be highly amusing and the romantic aspect to not be overwhelming in fact it takes quite a back seat for a lot of the film. In this film the viewers follow the story of Gil Pender (Owen Wilson) a screenwriter who travels to Paris with his fiancee (Rachel McAdams). As the story continues we discover Gil having to deal with the shortcomings of his materialistic fiancee. He travels back to Paris in the 1820’s one evening where he meets F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, and many more. I enjoyed the insight of this beautiful time period and the  famous characters we know today whom were beautifully portrayed. The ending of the movie is quite interesting as well. I decided not to link the trailer because it was poorly edited giving a completely wrong idea as to what the whole movie is about. I strongly suggest giving it a view as I found it to be inspiring and hope you would too.

Art Gallery

Art galleries… You know as an artist you would think I would like art galleries but for the oddest of reasons I never really cared for them.. apart of me enjoys going to be inspired and the other part of me becomes un amused and I'm not quite sure why.. am I alone in this? ITs not out of disrespect because there is some fantastic stuff, heartwarming stuff, and inspiring stuff. I really enjoyed getting to see the work of the professors that I would be studying under. Everything from plain doodles on a sunday morning and fancy pictures of foreign people to pottery and digital art. One of the big inspirations to me was the sketchy and doodly esk pictures that I saw because I love doodling and sketching thats one of my favorite things to do. I inspire to freely doodle and sketch well some day. The conversations that I got into about just that we're quite fascinating as well. I hope that someday those sketchy thoughts about doodles (haha get it haha…)  will be true some day. I inspire to create. Also I don’t know if its me but every time I go to an art gallery I am always extremely tempted to touch every piece of art… the unspeakable thing that you should never do in a gallery! (... Sorry vincent and Pablo…)

Blood Brother

Oh boy.. This film.. After seeing this film there was a lot to process and I feel like I was leaving the film quite disheartened. I think the film inspired some deep conversations between my friends for a good hour after the film. I think perhaps it made me angry at times and sad at other times and sometimes I wasn't quite sure what to think. It was good at provoking emotion. A part of me wonders if thats the goal is to provoke emotion or if its goal is to simply just tell a story I am simply unsure or maybe perhaps its goal was to do both. Im not really sure if I can find much words for this film i was more or less left speechless. However at a part of the film when he was taking care of the boy in the hospital I couldn't help but think it reminded me of our human relationship with God. It reminded me of how we can literally be repulsive to God because of the sin we sink in but God never stops taking care of us he loves us so much that he cares for us and he wants to see us overcome the things that can literally render us unmovable.

Welcome to Night Vale

Welcome To Night Vale is a podcast presented as a radio show for the fictional town of Night Vale. It was created by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, is voiced by Cecil Baldwin, and is published by Commonplace Books. The podcast consists of "news, announcements and advertisements" from the desert town. From what I hear everyone finds night vale exactly how I found the bod cast, if comes OUT OF THE MIDDLE NO WHERE, and you realise its something that is quite popular as far as podcasts, and then you start to wonder why have I not heard of this until now of have I perhaps your brain was just whipped of all memories eh? I love this podcast quite a bit. Its a creepy but yet its highly comical because, the situations that Night Vale is often placed in is highly ridiculous no matter how disheartening it can be. like the *SPOILERS(Josiah)* a Glowing cloud that rains cats and dogs ruling the school board, and the school deciding to put traps and electric mazes in front of pop vending machines in schools so as to promote good health. *END SPOILERS* I enjoy it because the podcast advances in story and its highly interactive with atmospheric music and sound effects. One quite awesome thing that is featured in each podcast is THE WEATHER which is a segment that features a song from artist who want to get their music out there. that is one of the main reasons common place books does the podcast is to help new artist share their music so that they can get more listeners and followers, thats BRILLIANT.  Night Vale is highly fantastic, and the fan art that comes from it can be fantastic. So dear listeners I leave you with a thoughtful video and the first episode of the podcast. WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE.

Hazards and Complications

Just this morning I got into a conversation with my brother (Karli) about the dedication and the complications that always seems to crop up while filming. Like your breath showing up in the film when you are supposed to be in a warm and cool place. This conversation reminded me of this these videos. I thought I would show these few videos for a couple of reasons. One Its an awesome video (yes I know Assassins Creed HOW COULD YOU RACHEl.. tsk tsk. steve you must be so worried with all my villains, heroes, and assassins.) There is a lot of safety hazard that goes into making a video like this because both the actor who is experienced but more importantly the camera man. Try following, jumping all the while filming. Lets not forget to mention when he jumps into traffic and over unexpecting cars or when the camera man follows the man of parkour over platforms that are being jumped onto through a body of water, as well as, running through large groups of people and little kids. There is a lot to look out for.  Oh and lets not forget the behind the scenes man that is also running after the parkour man and the camera man eh! Either way feast your eyes!

Behind the scenes.

CICFF

The chicago international children's film festival was among the few trips I will most definitely never forget. This trip was full of many inspiring moments. I was also able to get an insight into some of the stuff I would be working on in the many years to come in my life as well as the many challenges I would have to deal with in my career. The trip was full of so many great experiences and jokes to be remembered for a long time (Hey Pantless what is the weather like today?)  Need I say I have had countless things checked off my bucket list since my arrival here at huntington and the CICFF was the trip that knocked off more than a few of the things on my list! I experienced many great films and even some films that I still get angry to think about. I was initial not going to go on the trip but through the mighty words of Steve and my brother (Karli) they convinced me to go to the trip. Can I say I was quite glad to go on the trip. Not only was my passion for animation and filmmaking reawakened furthermore I was able to dig into the heads of a few film makers of a couple shorts during a Q&A. It was really cool to meet filmmakers from LA and Brazil (whose short film was previously at the Toronto  Film Festival which also feature Only Lovers Left Alive by Jim Jarmusch) Any way I highly suggest if you haven't already jump on to the bandwagon for the next CICFF trip it was highly worth it, inspiring, filled with great laughs, and fantastic food.

Quiz #2

There was most definitely many great films that we have seen so far. However, I thought I would write about Pfffirate. Even though this film was not the most impacting to me, it still had some meaning to me . I find myself viewing films much more differently as each day passes especially after the International Chicago Children's Film Festival. I enjoy the idea of this short film a lot, not only is it clever in style. Pfffirate was made by using wise budget, time, and concept decisions. It made me think about how water can often be a big challenge in the animation world not only in the way its animated but how expensive it can be. Pfffirate challenged that idea by making the water simple and complex. It kinda reminds me of how the students managed water in a stop motion film here at HU, by using the clear spiral porch ornaments and twisting them, they made it look like there was moving water moving under a bridge. It was cheep, innovative, conveyable, and clever. I had seen Pfffirate once before and at the time I only saw it as pure enjoyment...which it is. However, seeing it again after spending more time evaluating media, I was able to see the film in a whole new and enjoyable way. Also who wouldn't like to see alien metal birds cause mischief. I say they are alien because they are metal in a plastic blow up world. Which is an interesting concept that can be taken in many different directions. It makes you wonder how the metal birds got into a fragile plastic world, or maybe the birds were there all along. The outcasts of society.

Whats The Point

First off I hope everyone is having a great fall break!! I would like to write about something that has been on my mind lately. Writing blog posts.. whats the point? Thats the question… Other than the fact of having to write them in order to get a grade…(I would say forced, but alas its a choice) What is the point. That is the overall feeling I have gotten from the whole class and the blogs. I may be wrong in some ways, and perhaps that is not how everyone feels. None the less I couldn’t help but bring this up. I also guarantee I will regret posting this. Either way what's the point most of you will most likely not read this. I have enjoyed blogging and sharing things because, there is a lot of cool stuff to experience and learn about in this world. Yet when I look through the new blogs for the day it kinda saddens me to see no comments on nearly every blog. There is some great material here and I think it would be awesome if we actually got into a conversation about things. Although I fear I should just lose hope because, most of the time the only reason people get on the blog is to see if anyone commented on their blog and thats it. We should use this as a way to grow and expand to challenge each other and imagine new things. Otherwise if we choose to disregard the blogs then what's the point other than a grade and a few wasted minutes of life..

Jesus Toast

We have all seen it before the iconic images of “Jesus” burnt into a piece of toast or the last potatochip that happened to be in the shape of Jesus’s head. Not to mention the times when that special piece of of toast makes it on the news or is sold on ebay for hundreds of dollars. (As a meer person of mischief I would eat the toast and send only the leftover crust to the buyer. (Ehehehehe oh..)) It often baffles me how often times we waste our time on such petty matters such as Jesus toast. Yet sometimes those petty matters are what makes life great. I dont think I would ever spend a dime on a piece of Jesus toast for two reasons. One, it is just toast with a face that probably isn't jesus’s face, its just something we have proposed to be what he looks like, and two I feel the need to never try and treasure an object that has Jesus’s face on it because he is not of this world.
This short film toys with this idea in quite a witty and unexpected way. When I saw the title my curiosity was peaked. I am always curious to see how people approach themes of touchy subjects such as religion. This short film dances gracefully on the fine line of humanities truth.

Nandos: The Last Dictator Standing Commercial

First of I would like to fully state that I hate commercials with a passion.. A fiery passion, so much so that it nearly melts my frost giant soul!!! However, this commercial caught my attention, and its not just because its European wooooohoooo (I love you Europe!!). I loved it because it challenged something serious in a really comical way. It is unbelievably hard to find enough words to explain why this commercial is so great. Oddly enough I feel the need to be offended yet why in the world would I be offended by a commercial that is playing with the concept of dictators. The best part is the whole commercial is all play and the last few seconds is business. The producers of the commercial did something right. They made it properly entertaining all the while getting their message across. After all T.V. is supposed to be a form of entertainment, its not something where you just go and be bombarded by all of the producers products they want you to buy. I didn’t find this commercial annoying like most of the others, and I find myself coming back to this ad for the pure enjoyment that it expresses. So in my excitement I felt the need to share it with all of you!

Doctor Who and Challenging Faith

I have always been hesitant to face things that are willing to challenge my faith and present tough questions concerning my faith and beliefs. Ever since the discussion of challenge and delight I have been more willing to allow my self to be challenged. I have come to the realization that if I don't challenge my faith or ask questions, then what is the point to having faith. Maybe then I will not only learn to grow deeper in faith, gain a better understanding of who God is, and go deeper in my relationship with God. Recently my roommate and I sat down to begin watching through doctor who. The episode next in line was named “Satan pit,” an episode I have only allowed my self to see a few times in comparison to all other Doctor Who episodes. This episode of doctor Who is full of both truth and lies. However, I suppose that is up to the viewers to decide.

Here is a synopsis of the episode. The Satan Pit was the ninth episode of the second series of Doctor Who. It introduced the presence of the beast, a demon purporting himself to be none other than the Devil. The Doctor faces off against an enemy that defies all his beliefs. Rose and what's left of the crew are trying to escape from the Beast's legion of possessed crew mates and Ood (an alien race). Can the Doctor stop an impossible enemy from escaping its prison and save the universe?
I will leave you with a quote that got me thinking.
“The devil is an idea. In all those civilizations, just an idea. But an idea is hard to kill. An idea could escape. The mind. The mind of the great Beast. The mind can escape!” -The Doctor

Tonight Im Going To Poop In Your Shoes

Watch the video first!!!

Hold on a second let me just wipe my tears aways from my lost hope of serenity 2,
if any of you caught the reference, Nathan Fillion is the fantastic!
The epicosity (yes its a word now!) contained in this video is like none other. I can’t even find the words to express how awesome this video is. I feel like this video was made purely for entertainment purposes, but I am going to attempt explaining what I got from this video. First off I enjoy the way this short film makes fun of “hot models” in a way.. We are always going to want what we don’t have. Then there is the idea of perception. We will always perceive things differently. One may see someone as fit and the other see them as fat, one may see a different color than the other yet its still named (insert color name here). One may see a piece of art and think thats is “brilliant!” and another see the same piece of art and say “Burn it and never let it see daylight again!!” None the less I find this video fantastic, and quite frankly I find Nathan Fillion to be quite fantastic! I have no idea how the producers, BriTANick, were able to get Nathan Fillion or Joss Whedon for their short films. BriTANick has some great concepts but I will warn viewer discretion is advised. I hope you enjoyed the video as much as I did!!

I'm Going To Out Manure You

I love marvel mash up as well as the Thor comics for many reasons. I find Thor to be really inspiring. I also find the relationship between Thor and Loki, the Norse gods from Norse mythology, to have a really dynamic relationship. Loki’s character is especially my favorite because he is extremely complex and deep  in many ways. I could write quite a lot about Thor and Loki, but alas I must refrain myself! The second reason I love marvel mash up is because it is fun and  witty making play with ideas and concepts. They are also not afraid to make fun of their own characters. Last, but not least the third reason I love these videos is because, they openly point out situations animators deal with. Things like the line conveying the desk or the mans fingers magically extending a couple of inches so he can reach his staff. These are all things that are so present and unbelievably true yet we often look over them in the moment. I enjoy that they point out the illusions animators use on a daily basis, yet it still works. So for your enjoyment, here are the first two episodes of Thor’s marvel mashup!

(Also my favorite part of the Thor comics is when Loki goes to NewYork and turns all of the cars into ice cream!)

I Told You I Was Freaky

I dont have a lot to explain or say about this song because it is just something that needs to be listened to and enjoyed. This song is literally indescribable. It also has an unbelievably catchy tune. I love this song because in reality we are all freaky. Perhaps we are not freaky in the way that this man is, but somewhere deep down we are all freaky. It seems we are often too civilized to express our madness, you might think I am mad to consider the idea that you could possibly contain madness, but you are mad. According to my roommate I am mad for saying madness too many times (She should know I’m only as mad as a box of cats)! Apparently I can crack my eyeballs…. “I told you I was freaky.”
(Karli's response to her literally hearing me blink)
My point being who are we to be if we are not ourselves. This video is enjoyable to watch because its outlandishly magical. I am also curious about what they did with all of the fish in the end. Please enjoy!

Recent Inspiring Art

Deathtoll1912, Ivy Stark, is an artist whom I have found some recent inspiration from, so I thought that I would show some of their art. In the art world its hard to stand out and be different, and I feel like Ivy is someone who stands out (thats my perception I would suppose..). This person's art work is really different and unique to me.
I love when I find new styles of art to look at. I find both challenge and delight in this persons artwork. There is a sense of darkness that can be found in the art, as well as a sense of warmth. I especially enjoy the stylized features, in particular the noses! Noses are a big thing for me, I love drawing noses. I can’t help but say this person draws noses in a unique way. I also find the proportions used, whether intentional or not, fascinating because in the oddest of ways the proportions just work. anyway here is a few of the pieces I enjoyed and a link if you want to check out some of their other works! http://deathtoll1912.deviantart.com/
(I would give you their tumblr link, but nope its blocked…-.-)
