Seven Brides to seven brothers was released in 1954, and oh boy does it show it. From the quality of film, to the voice overs and folley, to the type of humor, and genre of music they sing even the type of camera angles they utilize. Although I enjoyed the movie all in all. It isn't one that I would have sought out on my own, but I am glad I got to see it.
The movie centers around a couple getting married and coming to live together they must lie with his six uncouth brothers. Convinced to civilize them She teaches them how to court a woman, and we follow them along this path as they get into all sorts of trouble. After their little effort has been shot down they turn to a history book. That teaches of how the roman soldiers stole women from far nations and brought them home to wed. Against their better judgement they decide to utilize the same tactic. Once they have six women captive they attempt to court them resulting in much laughter.
The amount of physical comedy was kind of refreshing, it reminded me of the three stooges. Which I have not seen for a long tine. Even though they come across as foolish, there is something sincere about this type of humor. The external struggle is something we can easily see and relate to. All together seven brides was a good movie, but you do have to understand the context of when it came out to enjoy the movie.

7 Brides for 7 Brothers
I went to this play mainly
to support a friend that was in it. I have never been a huge fan of
plays or musicals. I just didn't like the story stopping to sing so I
never went to many plays. This play however surprised me. It was very
funny and I ended up liking it a lot. All the actors did a fantastic
job.
There was a lot of really
cool choreography. I was amazed by it. They were throwing girls
everywhere. It was really pretty crazy. And of course the best
dancers were Sean and Sam.
My favorite part was the
pastor. He was an old man and he was only apart of a few scenes but
whenever he entered of exited he ran in this way that was just
ridiculous and it was hilarious. Another part I really enjoyed was
Gideon's roll. He was a really likable character and the actor played
him well.
Another thing I liked was
what they did with Adam. He started out as this really nice guy that
saved this woman from some rude guy. Then he ended up being this jerk
that tricked her into taking care of his brothers and treated her
badly. He redeems himself in the end but it was interesting to see
his character change so much.
Overall, I liked it a lot
and I would definitely go see it again if I had the opportunity.
7 Brides
I went to see the musical 7 brides for 7 brothers while it was still showing at Huntington. Having never seen the movie or musical before, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Everyone played their character so well. The story was entertaining as well. I was entertained the entire way through. When Adam brought home Milly and she found out that he had 7 brothers I couldn't help but laugh. It was such a humorous play. My favorite scene was the abduction scene. Ja'shon's character made me laugh so hard, as did every other character. The development was great. I got nervous when the pass had melted and you knew that all the towns people were going to be going up. I didn't want anything to happen to the brothers, even if they did do wrong by abducting the girls. I was glad that it was left up to the girls in the end and that they chose to marry the brothers. I think one of my other favorite scenes had to be when they were in the barn fighting and losing their sanity, that one was quite humorous as well. Everyone in the musical did a great job keeping us entertained throughout the entire thing. Very well done.
