Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

This was an interesting show.

In my family, we were raised on musicals so it was nice to see something I've never heard of.
This was my second time attending a college level production and this production met my expectation. It was such a cute story about meeting your true love and how being spontaneous can get you to far places (and that kidnapping/ being a stalker isn't a good thing) This musical had a great moral to the story and plenty of humor.

The choreography was amazing! I've been in three high school productions my self and that was nothing compared to the dances in this show. Girls where being flung around, guys jumping up and down off things, while singing beautifully!

By the way...
Sean and Sam you both were wonderful in the show!!! Thank you for performing :)

Mansome

Well.... there was 5 of us watching this documentary.

I'm glad Nicole decided to share this with us. It opened my eyes to that men struggle with pressures of physical appearance just as much as girls. I mean, men have always struggled with having to be muscular, tall, dark, and handsome.... this documentary said more than that.

A common question that was asked through out the film was "What is masculinity?". Each man they interviewed had a different answer. Some said how they acted, what they did, or based it on how they looked.

As a female, I think masculinity is more than just if they can bench press a house or how many girls they can date in a year. I believe (and this is about to get mushy I'm so sorry) masculinity is how a man treats other people, not just his wife or girlfriend but his parents, friends, or even random strangers. Being humble to others and being polite is very masculine.

Side Note: Guys, there is a huge difference between being arrogant and being confident. Be confident... not
arrogant. kthanksbai

Ok, even though this guy was SUPER full of himself in the film... can be just appreciate the beauty that is his beard... yiss.

I'm sorry, I'm not into this whole blogging thing ... move along.

Late Night Blogging...

It is currently 2:08 AM and I was scrolling through my normal sites (Facebook, twitter, reddit, 9gag.) and I found an interesting picture that was relevant to class today... yesterday? ANYWAYS... this picture is very powerful to me... I would give it a good, long look if I were you. Nothing make me angrier that inequality. Take away, gender, color, sexual orientation... we are all people; people made in God's image. Who are we to judge God's creations? Who are we to say one is better than the other? We are all human.

..... rant over. Have a good night, morning? I need sleep, yo.

Fullmetal Alchemist

If you can't tell by now I really like tv shows....

Anyways! Fullmetal Alchemist! :D (I'm going be discussing the original series, sorry Brotherhood fans)

Fullmetal Alchemist is about Ed Elric and his brother Alphonse, who lost their mother to a disease and wanted to use alchemy to bring her back. Which is also called the Great Taboo.

Alchemy in this show is not just turning straw into gold it is, as said in the show "the comprehension, deconstruction and reconstruction to get a new shape." So Ed and Al get the basic ingredients of a human body and try to bring their late mother back to life but it backfires due to equivalent exchange. During the transmutaion Ed loses his leg and Alphonse loses his entire body. Ed sacrifices his right arm to attach his brothers soul to a suit of armor that there father had in his study room. Ed ended up getting metal prosthetic limbs.
Now the brothers join the military as state alchemists in search of the Philosophers stone, which doesn't follow the principle of equivalent exchange, to get their bodies back to normal.

The show brings up an excellent point... what is the cost of a human soul?
The human bodies ingredients can all be bought on a child's allowance but what does it take to make a soul?

Supernatural

OK! on the CW on October 8th at 9 o'clock "Supernatural" season 9 premiered. I've been a strong fan of the show for a long time and still enjoy it even though it has its ups and downs.

The show was originally about two brothers that traveled the country side killing whatever supernatural creature crossed there path while they looked for there missing father, who was looking for the demon that killed their mother.

Now it focuses more on the apocalypse and them trying to save the world from damnation.

They introduced angels into the show and even discussed the idea of God. They even had Satan as regular appearing character.

I watched the show for so long because it's interesting to see how Hollywood bends the bible and scripture to make an dramatic and eye catching show. They have read scripture on screen, talked about the dangers of possession and how Satan is to be taken seriously.
But on the other hand they make God and the angels to look like the bad guys....why?

As a christian, it makes me nervous that people are actually taking the show as fact about Christianity, that God is some old guy in the sky with a smite button just waiting for us to make a mistake or that he actually doesn't care about us at all. The show doesn't just do that to Christianity either, its to different mythologies and other religions like Buddhism and Muslim beliefs.

Should Hollywood continue this way by twisting information like this or keeping using it for entertainment purposes.... hmmm

And All That Jazz...

Chicago (2002) Poster

If you recognize that song lyric in the title you might have heard it on Pandora like me or watched the musical Chicago, that I just happen to watch a few days ago with some friends.

I loved this musical ( Thank you Emerald Leong) it was beautifully done. I've grown up with musicals watching Gene Kelly tap dance in "Singing n' the Rain" to Marlon Brando sing with mobsters in "Guys and Dolls" Chicago was right up there.

"Chicago" is about Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta- Jones) and Roxie Hart (Renee Zellweger), two women in prison for killing there husband and boyfriend and have been put on death row during the 1920s. They fight for fame to keep them alive and get them out of prison.

Several parts about this movie are a little inappropriate but this movie is worth watching for the excellent acting and dance sequences.

House of Wax

This was an... interesting film. It was 2 AM on a Friday night and I decided "Why not watch a horror movie!" (such a good idea... NOT). I actually do love the horror genre, a lot of my favorite movies and tv shows are considered horror and I very much enjoy Edger Allen Poe's writings.

Anyways! I'm a big fan of Jared Padalecki; co-star on the show Supernatural. I saw back in 2005 he was in the film "House of Wax". I have not seen this film or heard of it but I've wanted to watch it for quite some time.

The movie "House of Wax" was actually made back in 1953 starring Vincent Price and Phyllis Kirk.
The 1953 "House of Wax" is about a Professor (Vincent Price) who specializes in wax sculptures, his most famous being of Marie Antoinette and Joan of Arc. The Professors business partner, Matthew Burke, wants some of his investment back but the Professor refuses so Burke lights the House of Wax on fire to get some insurance money. The Professor is believed to be dead in the fire until he returns months later wanting to remake his famous sculpture of Marie Antoinette. The Professor gets a new assistant, Sue Allen.... I'll let your own imagination go from there.

the 2005 film wasnt as interesting and had horrible reviews compared to the 1953 film. If you like the horror genre I would suggest both of these films...

Comics to TV show

OK! I posted about myself starting to watch the new CW series Arrow based on DC comics Green Arrow.
I'm currently on Episode 7 (trying to rush so I can watch the season premiere on Oct 9th ).

Green Arrow Character Background:
Born into a wealth. Family goes on cruise (around the age of 8-11) and  there is a shipwreck near Africa. Oliver Queen, after watching his parents die, becomes very good with a bow and arrow and learns to protect himself until he is rescued. When he returns to the states he is raised by his uncle until he is old enough to take over the family business. Queen then becomes a drunk and playboy until he finds himself in another shipwreck and ends up on a deserted Island where he masters using a bow and arrow as a hunter. He soon realized that he had been wasting his life and decided he should fight crime. So again when he got back to the states he took up the mask as Green Arrow, the vigilante of Star City.

Differences between Arrow (the show) and Green Arrow (the comics) :

Arrow:
- 1 parent (mother)
- sibling (little sister)
- been on a deserted Island for 5 years after shipwreck
- master of bow and arrow
- has killed people
- (i'm trying to avoid spoilers)
- personality, dark and mysterious
- currently hunting down major crime lords
that have wronged Star City

Green Arrow:
- no parents
- no siblings (only heir to the company)
- was on a deserted Island (longer than 5 years)
- master of bow and arrow
- avoids killing
-personality, sarcastic, humorous
- takes down even petty thieves

Some character have been used wrongly for example :
In the comics Green Arrow has a side kick named Roy Harper aka Speedy. Roy had a bad addiction to heroin and Oliver was a big part of his life helping him get over his addiction. **Spoilers!!** Instead they have replaced the drug addicted side kick with Olivers sister.

Even though the comics have been successful on there own, Hollywood still has to make it even more dramatic for television. Therefore they have to change serveral things like add, take away, or completely change characters just for the sake of a "more exciting" story.

I'm liking Arrow very much, even as a comic book reader. I would suggest it to anyone who likes a lot of action in there shows. (I'm actually watching it as I type this)

Arrow

I've heard quite a bit about this show even though the fan base isn't very large. As a DC comics reader I was a little hesitant to watch Arrow.  I've read about Green Arrow and love his character very much  and love the chemistry between him and Black Canary. I didn't some show off the CW to ruin it for me and give non comic readers false information.

I broke down today and decided to watch the pilot episode and see what the hype was about.

It was a good start! the fighting was excellent and the story is interesting but there were things that could have been out of the show. (for instance Oliver Queen has never had a sister...)

If anyone has seen this show, tell me about it.

yup...

Avatar the Last Airbender Original Series

Hello everyone!

I've known my room mate for awhile now and we decided to watch a show together. We decided on Avatar the Last Airbender from Nickelodeon (easily one of the best shows they have ever aired).

If you've never seen the show I would heavily recommend it!!! The show is very stylized in an anime format even though it is an american animation created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.
Left to Right: Sokka, Katara, Aang, Toph, and Zuko

The show follows a young boy named Aang who is found in an ice burg by a young girl named Katara and her older brother Sokka. On a side note the world is split up into four regions : The Fire Nation, The Earth Kingdom, The North and South Water Tribes, and The Air Nomads. In this world certain (mostly random) people are able to bend (control) the elements. For example, the people of the Earth Kingdom can earth bend, the people of the Fire Nation can create and manipulate fire, ect. Well Aang is called the Avatar who is the only master of all four elements and the protector of the world chosen by the spirits.

Well Aang was to be the next Avatar but went missing with his flying bison, Appa, for 100 years. In that time the Fire Nation attacked all the regions and Aang is the only known airbender left. I'll leave the rest of the show for you to watch yourself.

My roomie and I have just finished the series and started to watch a spin off series called The Legend of Korra, which unfortunately is only 12 episodes long but the second season is to premiere September 13 @ 11 AM.

This is such a great show with great animation and wonderful plot line :)

have fun watching!!!

Hayao Miyazaki Retirement! :(

This breaks my heart so much when I found this out this morning. Hayao Miyazaki, the creator of the films "Spirited Away", "Howl's Moving Castle" and "Princess Mononoke" (which have all won Oscars) has decided to retired this year after his latest project "The Wind Rises" which has been in Japan theaters since July of this year.
How I'm feeling right now ^^^
Hayao Miyazaki has been making wonderful films since the 1970's and has been a personal inspiration of mine since I was a little kid and saw "Spirited Away" for the first time on Cartoon Network. If you haven't seen any of his films I highly suggest "Howls Moving Castle" or "Ponyo" to begin with. I hope you get inspiration form him as I did. I'm going to miss seeing his work.

Becca Johnson

Hey! I’m Becca Johnson and I’m from Van Wert Ohio. I love all kinds of music (mostly Rock and Classical), I’ve been a certified lifeguard at my YMCA for three years so far and have been on a swim team for 9 years. I read a lot of comic books and my favorite superhero is Superman. As a DMA (Animation) student I love to watch films and TV shows like “Spirited Away” and “Supernatural”. I have an older sister who just graduated college and she has been an inspiration for my art work. Another inspiration for my work is Jim Lee, an artist at DC Comics. I’m hoping to someday animate for Disney or Pixar but if that doesn’t work out I hope to draw for DC Comics or wherever God takes me (obviously I’m not in DMA for the money ;) )I’m so happy to be here at Huntington and so excited about this class and uh … my favorite color is blue… um… I’m really bad at typing things like this so… yeah.
