Dastardly, Nefarious, Villains part 2 ****SPOILERS****

So, in my research for creating a likeable, and memorable villain, i've brought some examples of some of the most popular and iconic villains in media today. Before that however, I want to distinguish, at least how i define them, between a Villain and an Antagonist. An antagonist can be anyone, good, bad, or neutral that opposes the goals or ideals of the Protagonist of the story. Robin could be an antagonist to Batman, if  they were dead set on opposite goals. A villain is someone who is inherently evil, malicious, or beguiling in a manner contradictory to the morals and beliefs of society. Often times, people will confuse an antagonist for a villain. I seek to create true bad guys that the audience remembers, favors, and loves to hate.

As a part of this series of posts i will highlight a villain that exemplify what i would like to learn to create.

Name: WALTER WHITE a.k.a HEISENBERG

Media: BREAKING BAD (5 Seasons)

Actor : BRYAN CRANSTON

Role : CHEMIST/ DRUGLORD

***SPOILERS FROM HERE ON***

Synopsis : Walter White was a aging High School Chemistry teacher who worked two jobs to support his family and his son who has Rickett's Disease. Walter has a genius level intelligence but has made unlucky decisions in the past, resulting in a repressed and unhappy life. Early in the plot, Walter learns that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is given only a short time to live. Concern about the welfare of his family after he is gone, Walter begins to use his Chemistry Genius to create Methamphetamine, or Meth for short. Walter struggles to keep this a secret from his family, friends, and his DEA agent brother-in-law, Hank. As the story continues, Walter's cancer goes into remission and realizes that his plan to make a fortune selling meth and then to die with his secret has now fallen through. Rather than run and quit while he was ahead, Walter decides to start his own drug empire and is willing to do anything to become the best. Walter's chemical knowledge and his ability to make a highly superior product than anything on the streets attracts the gaze of some of the biggest players in the meth game. Walter wants to have the ultimate Drug Empire and finally have is call to greatness. But is he truly a bad guy? does protecting and providing for his family justify the people he kills, lives he ruins, and laws he breaks?

*** SPOILERS END ***

For those of you who have seen Breaking Bad, is Walter really a villain? What is it about Walter that we love so much? Walter is an average guy who Lies, Cheats, Murders, Steals, and deals drugs; yet people can't seem to get enough of him. He claims he does it for his family, but he also does it for personal gain and glory. In modern society many forms of media have villains or "bad people" as the main "Hero" of the story. Why is that? Please comment and tell me why you like WALTER specifically.

Is it because hes willing to do anything to protect his family?
Is it because of something he does?
Maybe because he takes risks where a lot of us are afraid to?
Or perhaps you just want to see how far he can go before he gets whats coming to him?

Please comment or talk to me in person. I need to know what people like so i can learn from it.
