My Father the Hero

As I said in my last post, my mom is a French teacher so she brings home lots of French films that I usually end up watching. My Father the Hero, the 1994 version, was one of the latest movies she brought home. My Father the Hero is a remake of the French movie, Mon Pere Ce Heros made in 1991. The 1994 version stars French actor, Gerard Depardieu, and Katherine Heigl. It’s a family comedy movie about a divorced Andre (Depardieu) who tries to reconnect with his daughter, Nicole (Heigl) by taking her on vacation to the Bahamas. Nicole wants to appear as woman to try to impress an older, local boy, Ben. She makes up lie after lie trying to impress him. She didn’t want to seem lame because she was on vacation with her father, so instead she tells Ben that her father, Andre is her lover. Once Andre discovers the lies Nicole has made about him, he goes along with them because he is desperate to make her happy. This is another one of those movies where you can’t think too much about it. To me, this movie was entertaining and it made me laugh. The lies she tells are super disturbing, but it’s still funny.
