Los Intocables

Controversy has always been tied to art because of the nature of art itself. Last year and artist from Cuba, Erik Ravelo, presented a series of photographs that caused a lot of controversy in the web. The photographs received mixed reviews. Some say that Ravelo crossed the line and that these images are disrespectful while others say that the images depict modern day issues just fine. The images consist of a man standing in a cross-like pose while a child appears to be crucified to the man's back. The images present different social problems. For example, in one of the images a child is crucified to the back of a man that appears to be the pope. This image comes from the accusations of pedophilia in The Vatican. I believe the images appear to be really disrespectful at first but after we analyze them we realize they are depicted in a very beautiful way. Maybe some of these situations are just speculations or maybe not; however, the message is clear and it impacts the viewer greatly.

Here are the seven images he presented. It would be great to hear what you have to say about this!

Nuclear effects.

Sex tourism in Thailand.

War in Syria.

Pedophilia in The Vatican

Child obesity

 Organ trafficking black-market.

Right to bear arms.

  1. These are incredible Panthelys! Extremely timely and thought provoking. We have no idea how our actions as adults are affecting future generations.

    1. I know right! I believe all the controversy around these images is that we live in a world where we sugarcoat everything that is happening in order to create a perfect illusion of our society when in reality it is the total opposite. These images portray modern problems in the true meaning of the crucifixion and I find it clever and amazing.

  2. I came across this artist when I was researching for my paper on art censorship; I think that guy's work absolutely rocks and it really does make you think! I like how it really challenges us on our views and makes us reevaluate some
