Warning: Spoilers
Recently I have started the showtime program Homeland. I have always been interested in political dramas and the war in the middle east. This show deals with both.
It is about a POW named Brody that was rescued after eight years of being held by terrorists. He comes back to the US to his wife and two kids. To most he is considered a war hero but one CIA agent (Carrie) has intel that he may have been turned in captivity and is now plotting an attack on America.
The thing I love most about this show is the fantastic character development. No character is shallow or simple. There are a few main characters and you really see all of their problems. None of the are portrayed as the invincible protagonist. Carrie the CIA agent is bipolar and continuously struggles with that. Her mentor Saul is having problems with his wife. Brody the POW has issues with adjusting back to normal life. Seeing them struggle with these issues really makes them more likable. Even Brody who does end up being a terrorist is a character that you really care about. It's just shows you there's no one you can't love if you know their story. Even a terrorist if you know he is just a broken man that found comfort in the wrong company. And that's why I love this show.
