The Hunger Games

I recently watched the Hunger Games again in anticipation for Catching Fire coming out later this month! This was one of the best movies that I had scene in a long time. I hadn’t read the book before I saw the movie, so the film was all new to me. I thought the director, Gary Ross, did an excellent job on bringing the book to life. For those of you who don’t know, The Hunger Games is about an elite society called the Capitol and Panem, the region, is broken into twelve districts. The Capitol chooses two people from each district between the ages of twelve and eighteen to compete in the annual Hunger Games, a battle to the death. The last one standing is crowned victor and brings food and honor to their district. Katniss and Peeta are chosen to represent district twelve. Both of these characters, although under an intense situation, still someone keep their humanity.
I saw an interview that Jennifer Lawrence did while promoting the film and she related the Hunger Games to reality television. I thought that was interesting. The Capitol got enjoyment from seeing the people from each district suffer year after year. In our society reality television is extremely popular. There are a variety of reality shows, many of which we enjoy watching someone else’s dramatic life. So I thought this was an interesting concept.
