The main character, Jeff, enjoys pondering the meaning of life and the purpose of his life. It all starts with a wrong number. A man calls Jeff's residence, asking for "Kevin." Later, while riding the bus, Jeff sees a man with "Kevin" written on the back of his jersey. He takes this as a sign, and follows him to several places, is jumped, and runs into his brother. From there, Jeff helps his brother, Pat, find his wife and save his marriage.
At the same time, Jeff and Pat's mother, Sharon, realizes that she is utterly unhappy with her life. She thinks about all of the things that she wanted to do, and how they didn't turn out. Eventually, she is convinced that it is time for her to live for herself.
I love how the stories came together. Everyone ended up in one place for different reasons. No one knew how much these people had gone through just to be on that bridge at that moment. All for their own specific purpose. Everything in each person's life was pushing them towards that moment. And it is beautiful.
