Toy Story: the godfather of computer animated films

Toy story. What else can you say but toy story? As far back as I can remember, this film has been there. I'm not kidding, some of my earliest memories are scenes from this movie. These days, when Hollywood is popping out 3d animated film after film with serious lack of "that movie magic"(for lack of a better term), I think of this masterpiece and what it represents to me. Released on thanksgiving of 1995, this was the first film of the amazing animation company Pixar. Before this film, pixar had simply done short films and animations for commercial companies. When they were bought by Disney, they were eventually given the greenlight to make any animated film they wanted. Pixar would handle the making of the movie and Disney would focus on marketing ventures. One of Pixar's founding members and original group animator John Lasseter took it upon himself to screenwrite the film. After some thinking the original plot for toy story was made.....but it needed a lot of work. So after about 2-5 years of re-writes and effort the little company Pixar had some thing to show the world, and it took everyone by storm.
The critics and public went crazy for the movie and its easy to see why. Pixar in its creative thinking and views on life, gave us a world that captures the innocence and the craziness of childhood. We get the highly entertaining view of the world...through the eyes of a toy. We see how toys view their roles in the lives of children, how they see playtime as a job or an occupation. Their world revolves around their owners and they'll do whatever it takes to make them happy as can be. We also see two different views of children with toy story. We have the rowdy yet calm Andy Davis, owner of Sheriff Woody Pride and a colorful assortment of other toys. We also have crazy punk rocker Sid Phillips who tortures toys for his amusement. When Andy gets awesome new toy Buzz Lightyear for his birthday, we see the effects of feeling misplaced and jealous as woody attempts to get rid of buzz. This only backfires and causes woody and buzz to both be trapped in Sid's house where he continuously tortures them until they work together to escape. Honestly there is so much material and feeling to this film it is no wonder it recived an Oscar at the 1996 awards.
It is colorful and action packed for the kids, yet backed up with a wide assortment of show biz legends to voice the characters and solid writing to entertain the adults. Truly a legendary film among lesser films made in the same time period, I'd recommend this movie to anyone whether you've seen it or not its a classic and it will always be that way.
