School of Rock

Well let me start off by saying that I know this is a little late but it has taken me some time to finally become comfortable with this bloggyness for DM101.

I love Jack Black and his wacky humor and everything he brings to the screen although I have not enjoyed some of his movies. This was my first time watching School of Rock and I was very happy that I finally got the chance to do so. I have always enjoyed a good heartfelt and ridiculously themed film which School of Rock fits into very nicely.
The movie is very much an entertaining movie not really meant to challenge the viewer but to pleasure. While the main source of School of Rock’s entertainment is comedy there is also a bit of breaking out of the normal and becoming more independent. The principle of the school is one example as she has been conformed to be very disciplined with the children due to the school’s prestige. Thanks to Dewey (Jack Black) she slowly becomes what she said was her old self as she no longer feels the need to fit in and do what people expect of her.
School of Rock shows how one man can really help many learn to express themselves even when it isn’t the usual thing to do or seen as the right thing to do. I think a small lesson we can grab from this film is that you need to be yourself and shouldn’t let anything stop you from doing just that.
