Camera Angles in Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is a great show as far as story goes but I feel it is often under appreciated for the cinematography. Its full of shots of reflections, long range, and tons of POV. It is truly a perfect example of good camera work.

One of the biggest things you need to worry about when making a show or movie is the camera angels. If you have ever seen a youtube video made by an “amateur”, which I'm sure you have, you have probably noticed the production value. You notice the straight on camera angles and the long scenes without cuts and the terrible composition. Often times that can ruin the whole video. It distracts you. It takes you out of the story and you spend the whole video paying attention to how bad it is instead of getting lost in the story. Thats when we can see great stories getting blown off because they are made poorly.

Breaking Bad is on the other end of this spectrum. It had such great shots that at some times I can notice them and it will take me out of the show for a second but just long enough to appreciated the craft. This is what makes it in my opinion the best show ever made both for story and production value.

  1. Yes Breaking Bad is truly a masterpiece. Did you know that it is filmed on 35mm film?! That is so rare for shows nowadays. It adds to the brilliance of the shots.I am so excited and sad about the finally next Sunday!!! Twill be bittersweet.
