Making an original movie and filming it live presents many
challenges for all involved. Remaking an iconic movie is plain craziness, but
NBC aired their live version of The Sound of Music just the same. In spite of
all the hard work that went into it, the movie received mixed reviews.
I absolutely loved it despite the critics’ opinion! The producers
went for a very theatrical movie version of the Broadway play, which in my mind
would be easier than a normal movie. The cast and crew shouldn’t have to completely
live up the standards set by the original movie. It wouldn’t be fair.
Carrie Underwood has an amazing voice and dropped her
country accent very nicely. She shouldn’t have to hear how she didn’t play the
part like Julie Andrews did 48 years ago. She wasn’t playing Julie Andrews; she
was playing Maria, and she played that
character fantastically! I for one liked that her acting wasn’t 100% polished. It
made it more believable that I was watching a play from different camera
angles.
All in all, I love it! I really don’t know what else to say
except that it is a great addition to the ongoing legacy of the Von Trapp
Family and the timeless love story between a nun and a navy captain.
