The Man Who Planted Trees

A man living in a barren land
Picks out one hundred seeds by hand
To plant them in the desert land
In hopes of restoration

He knows less than half will see the sun
And that his work will never be done
And though the work may seem long and un-fun
He moves towards completion

Day by day he plants more seeds
Year by year they grow more trees
Though a person on the outside never sees
The man’s great dedication

On the outside it seems miraculous
That a forest would grow up from the dust
Pure and secluded from man and his lust
And his abomination

But two men know the truth of the forest
The man responsible and the tourist
Who came back once a year as he promised
To see his friend’s creation
