The Plea of a Single Mother's Child

Mommy, Mommy, what is a family?
I look around but see nobody like me
I don’t have a daddy; he ran away
What could I have done to make him stay?
TV says you are dumb and don’t understand
But you say that you’re here for me, always on hand
Which one is lying ‘cause you can’t both be true
Mommy, teach me! I don’t know what to do

You try your hardest to be there for me
But most of what I learn comes from the TV
You are busy a lot but I don’t really mind
I’ve got TV shows to teach me things of all kind

But where is your voice in my education?
How do you choose to show you’re dedication?
My TV has carried me through everything
And told me that I could be a king

Who would you believe if you were me?
Look through my eyes and you’ll see
By your actions you proved you didn’t care
But my TV was always there
