So I recently have watched two movies that I wasn't able to watch in theaters over the summer. I took on The Great Gatsby and Oz the Great and Powerful, one actually held up to its name and was in fact, great. The other not so much.
The Great Gatsby tells us the story of a young Nick Carraway who lives next to the notorious Jay Gatsby. Across the lake from Nick and Jay, lives Tom and Daisy Buchcanan. Jay and Daisy have had a long love history which creates a lot of controversy. Well to my review: Coming from someone who has read the book and seen the original movie, I did not care for the first half whatsoever, it lacked alot of the emotions that I vividly remembered from the first movie and was rather boring to me, with that being said, it totally came around and had an amazing second half packed with suspense and intensity, I felt as though I was on the edge of seat. In the end, apart from the boring first half I actually really enjoyed the movie and really appreciated the direction they took it in.
Then theres Oz... Oh boy, umm, I hated almost every moment in this film. the effects were so poor and that really bothered me. I was really disappointed with the story as well, they took it down a weird path and it just did not do the film a justice. The film had only two delightful characters according to me, and that was the monkey butler and the little china doll. The monkey gave the movie a funny little kick that helped the film and the china doll girl was just overall delightful. She had a cuteness to her along with also showing a side to Oz that really helped develop his character as well. So overall, I need to be more careful in what I pick, Oz was a waste of time and Gatsby just didn't come close to the original movie.
I really have to disagree with you on Oz, I thought the effects were pretty good, and while I disliked Oz at first, he really started to grow on me...
