‘Beauty’ is such a simple word yet so complex at the same time. Throughout history humans have put so much effort in finding out what beauty really means; however, beauty is not something that can be defined. Something cold and gloomy might be ugly to someone while it might be beautiful to someone else. There is no definition to the word beauty because ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’. Like everything else in the world God gave us beauty as something pure and good; however, we humans tend to twist everything to our benefit.
We have said the phrase ‘Beauty hurts’ so many times that we become numb to what we are saying. The phrase really has much deeper meaning than just the pain that comes with working out. We could ask Narcissus what drove him to death and the answer would be beauty. He was so obsessed with his beauty that he starved to death. Another clear example of beauty gone wrong is Marilyn Monroe. She is considered as one of the most beautiful women ever; however, that beauty and the responsibility that comes with it killed her. In order to have/be beauty/beautiful there must be a sacrifice. Sometimes this sacrifice involves death. Other times it just involves going to the gym two hours a day. This ‘sacrifice’ I’m talking about can be for the better as well. For instance, God ‘sacrificed’ his son in order for us to have a sinless soul that could be considered beautiful. Whether it is for something good or something bad when it comes to beauty there must always be an exchange between beauty and something we really love. In most cases, our lives.
