While I was looking at animated shorts on YouTube, I came across this film called Reversal of the Heart. It’s a bit long (about 13 minutes), but it is definitely worth the watch. This beautiful short movie was crafted in Flash, Photoshop, and After Effects. It has no dialogue whatsoever and is able to communicate the story and theme perfectly. It’s not easy to tell a story without the characters or a narrator speaking. But this movie uses facial expressions and well-timed transitions to allow the audience to understand the story. I also really loved the art style in this animation. It’s very simple, but unique. The whole thing actually feels like a Disney Fantasia piece, and since I grew up with the original Fantasia, it gives me a greater appreciation for the work done. I don’t want to spoil the ending of the video, but I will say that the ending was very interesting and quite brilliant. The theme of revenge was handled very well in this short story. At first, I was a little confused with it, but after analyzing it some more, I realized that the knight's fate in this story fit so much better than just the dragon killing him for vengeance. It showed that the dragon, the supposed "monster", had more class and morals than the human. The decision for the ending was so well-thoughtout and interesting. If you have time, you should definitely watch this video.
That was totally awesome! I'm so glad it turned out happily; I was wondering how they were going to end it because there were a lot of things that needed to be tied up, such as the mother's revenge, the knight's punishment, and the whole ordeal with the girl being turned into a dragon. It was delightfully magical and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!
