Creating Art for the Audience

The audience is a very important part of art.  Artists need someone to show their art to, after all art is not for the artist alone.  Art is an expression of an artist’s feelings or beliefs, and the artist already knows what he or she feels and beliefs.
However it is my opinion that even though the art an artist makes, no matter what it may be, is for the audience the artists should create art without the audience in mind.  The audience can taint art.  If the artist forgets the audience and creates from his heart soul and mind they achieve art, but if they create art to tailor to the audience they achieve at best, brief entertainment.  Art can be entertaining no doubt but art is something more than that.  Art is lasting art sticks in the minds of its audience and causes them to think.
If one creates for the audience they create something that is forgettable.  Any well-loved piece of art was created as a true expression of the feelings of that particular artist.  The artist dictated what would be in their art and thus created honest art, which is the only true form.  The artist should not allow the audience to dictate what is in their art because the audience is not the artist.

Art made without the audience in mind lasts but art made through the audience is quickly devoured by the audience and is lost.
