Hedgehog in the
Fog
Hedgehog in the Fog, the first time we watched this in class
I really did not care for it, I preferred Tale of Tales by far. However, the
more I have thought about and discussed the film, the more I have come to
appreciate, relate and gain from it.
The fog seemed to reawaken a sense of curiosity and
imagination in the hedgehog. He wanders around, lost in the fog, and comes
across what would be normal occurrences, but the fog changes the experience,
you never know what may show itself next. The hedgehog’s adventure really hit
me when I watched it again. I feel like I am losing some of that childlike
curiosity and imagination, which saddens me. How can I see the world as an
artist, if I don’t have that sense of wonder in my life?
My other relation, is how the hedgehog is scared of the
falling leaf, bat, and owl at first. New experiences are scary, and when we can’t
see them coming, can be worse. But while he feared them at first, he later
learned that they were not so bad. At the end of the film when he had the old, familiar
friend, sitting outside counting the stars, drinking tea and eating jam, and
smelling the burning juniper twigs, I think came to miss the new experiences.
