I have
recently acquired a Netflix account. I
have been well utilizing my account. One
of the things that I have watched on Netflix is the short-lived but well loved
TV series Freaks and Geeks.
This is a
show about high school students in the year 1980. The show focuses on two groups of students in
particular, freaks and geeks, the freaks being the drugged out slackers and the
geeks being the well geeks. The show is
fantastic it is a drama but still really funny.
It is an accurate portrayal of high school life. Even though a lot of the problems are
problems of a student from 1980 there are still problems that transcend
generations, problems such as falling in love, dealing with unfaithful parents,
dealing with death, dealing with difficult teachers and dealing with ridicule
and judgment.
The actors
portray these problems with such realism and accuracy that one can relate to
them, even the ones that are specific to the 1980’s. Even someone like me who was not even alive
during the 80’s and was four years old when this show aired can relate to these
well-crafted characters.
Despite
this the show only lasted 18 episodes.
Perhaps the audience was just not ready for this show. People of younger generations, who would have
been too young to watch the show when it aired, love it making it a cult
classic. I would love to see more of
this terrific show but sadly no more exists.
All that’s left is to enjoy the little amount that does exist.
