Narcissism

  Narcissus was in love with his reflection and that led him to death. I was reading an article later this month that said: “In order to be an artist one must be narcissistic”. I’ve been thinking about this quote a lot lately because it is absolutely true. Sometimes I like to believe that my art has nothing to do with me; however, I know that is a lie because my art is the reflection of my soul. In order to paint something that will impact someone’s life or our lives we must have an introspection to see how we really feel. Being narcissistic is seen as something vain and earthly because it is; however, don’t you think that God is a bit narcissistic? I mean, we are a reflection of him. Like everything else in the world being narcissistic is something good until we obsess about it like Narcissus. When I am sad it can be seen in my art because what I paint is a reflection of my soul. In order to be an artist we need to be narcissistic. It is simple. It is not a vain thought it is just an introspection of our feelings and our thoughts.
