A Feather Tale

Adorned by her feathers, she was white and new
Offered not of free will but was given to you
You tried to hold on as she tried to break free
If you’d have let go, she might have come willingly

Instead you kept coming, grabbing at her
You wanted to pet her feathers like fur
When she did not want to obey
You made sure that she had to stay

You took away her feathers so she could not fly
She could not leave no matter how hard she would try
You did not care and ate her whole
You ruined her and took her soul

Her feathers that you shed
Lie at the foot of the bed
They serve as a reminder of the warmth she once claimed
That you took away, so now she feels ashamed

You are to blame for the tears that she cries
You don’t see it because you avert your eyes
But she cries by herself with to the help you don’t send
Whatever your first intentions, you hurt her in the end
