OK! I posted about myself starting to watch the new CW series Arrow based on DC comics Green Arrow.
I'm currently on Episode 7 (trying to rush so I can watch the season premiere on Oct 9th ).
Green Arrow Character Background:
Born into a wealth. Family goes on cruise (around the age of 8-11) and there is a shipwreck near Africa. Oliver Queen, after watching his parents die, becomes very good with a bow and arrow and learns to protect himself until he is rescued. When he returns to the states he is raised by his uncle until he is old enough to take over the family business. Queen then becomes a drunk and playboy until he finds himself in another shipwreck and ends up on a deserted Island where he masters using a bow and arrow as a hunter. He soon realized that he had been wasting his life and decided he should fight crime. So again when he got back to the states he took up the mask as Green Arrow, the vigilante of Star City.
Differences between Arrow (the show) and Green Arrow (the comics) :
Arrow:
- 1 parent (mother)
- sibling (little sister)
- been on a deserted Island for 5 years after shipwreck
- master of bow and arrow
- has killed people
- (i'm trying to avoid spoilers)
- personality, dark and mysterious
- currently hunting down major crime lords
that have wronged Star City
Green Arrow:
- no parents
- no siblings (only heir to the company)
- was on a deserted Island (longer than 5 years)
- master of bow and arrow
- avoids killing
-personality, sarcastic, humorous
- takes down even petty thieves
Some character have been used wrongly for example :
In the comics Green Arrow has a side kick named Roy Harper aka Speedy. Roy had a bad addiction to heroin and Oliver was a big part of his life helping him get over his addiction. **Spoilers!!** Instead they have replaced the drug addicted side kick with Olivers sister.
Even though the comics have been successful on there own, Hollywood still has to make it even more dramatic for television. Therefore they have to change serveral things like add, take away, or completely change characters just for the sake of a "more exciting" story.
I'm liking Arrow very much, even as a comic book reader. I would suggest it to anyone who likes a lot of action in there shows. (I'm actually watching it as I type this)
